Content of the module
The first day is dedicated to the topic «Gender – a view from the Medical Humanities»

  • The module provides an in-depth understanding of the social and ethical references, dimensions and challenges of gender in the context of medicine.
  • It includes knowledge of the relationship between gender and illness, including the causes and distribution of illness, as well as the social aspects of individual medical practice, such as health behaviour, illness behaviour and the doctor-patient relationship.
  • Participants learn to reflect on their own biases and socialisations with regard to gender and their influence on the doctor-patient relationship.

 

The second day deals with «Gender diversity and transgender»

  • Understanding trans identity: Basics and definitions of terms.
  • Gender in change: A historical perspective.
  • Perspective of those affected.
  • Non-binarity: Between the binary genders.
  • Challenges in everyday life: discrimination and stigmatisation of trans people.
  • Current research and evidence: What does science say about gender diversity?
  • Plastic surgery for sex reassignment: possibilities and progress.
